امریکی ڈیموکریٹک سینیٹر کرس مرفی نے ریپبلکن قانون سازوں سے کیف کے لیے فنڈنگ جاری رکھنے کی منظوری دینے کا مطالبہ کیا، اس دوران انہوں نے دعویٰ کیا کہ یوکرین کو شکست دینے کے بعد روس یورپ کے دوسرے حصوں پر حملہ کر سکتا ہے. یوکرین کے بارے میں سینیٹ کی خفیہ بریفنگ سے ریپبلکن واک آؤٹ کے بعد این بی سی نیوز کے ساتھ بات کرتے ہوئے مرفی نے اصرار کیا کہ اگر امریکہ یوکرین کی حمایت جاری نہیں رکھے گا، تو یوکرین یہ جنگ ہار جائے گا اور کیف روسی شہر بن جائے گا۔ کنیکٹی کٹ کے سینیٹر نے تجویز پیش کی کہ روسی صدر ولادیمیر پوتن کو تب تک “نیٹو اور یورپ پر مارچ کرنے کے لیے گرین لائٹ ملے گی، جب تک کہ امریکہ کارروائی نہ کرے۔

مرفی نے صدر جو بائیڈن کی 111 بلین ڈالر کی امداد کی تازہ ترین درخواست کو منظور کرنے سے انکار کرنے پر ریپبلکن قانون سازوں کی مذمت کی، اس امداد کے بارے انہوں نے دعویٰ کیا کہ یہ امداد دنیا کو پوتن کی جارحیت سے بچائے گی۔ واضح رہے ماسکو نے بارہا اس بات پر زور دیا ہے کہ اس کا نیٹو یا یورپ کے دیگر حصوں پر حملہ کرنے کا کوئی منصوبہ نہیں ہے، اور اس کے بجائے ماسکو کا دعویٰ ہے کہ امریکی زیر قیادت فوجی بلاک نے روس کی سرحدوں کی طرف توسیع جاری رکھی ہے جو کے روس کی سلامتی کے لئے ایک سنگین خطرہ ہے۔ روسی صدر ولادیمیر پوتن نے فروری 2022 میں کیف کے خلاف فوجی آپریشن شروع کرنے کی ایک اہم وجہ نیٹو میں یوکرین کے ممکنہ الحاق کو بھی بتایا ہے۔
