آج اکیس اگست کو دنیا میں عالمی یوم مسجد منایا جا رہا ہے، ایران کی تجویز پر او آئی سی کے معاہدے سے 21 اگست 1969 کو مسجد الاقصی کے جلانے کے دن کو عالمی یوم مسجد کا عنوان دیا گیا تھا۔ ایران پریس کی رپورٹ کے مطابق 21 اگست 1969 میں آتشزدگی کے واقعے کے بعد ایران کی تجویز سے اس دن کو عالمی یوم مسجد کے عنوان سے منایا جاتا ہے۔
ایرانی سپریم لیڈر آیت اللہ خامنہ ای نےعالمی یوم مسجد کی اہمیت کے بارے میں تاکید کرتے ہوئے کہا کہ درحقیقت یہ ایک انقلابی دن ہے۔ یہ مسجد الاقصی کو جلائے جانے کا دن اور اسلام دشمن سے مقابلے کا دن ہے۔

ایران پریس کے نمائندے کی رپورٹ کے مطابق آج مسجد الاقصی میں مسلمانوں اور خصوصا نوجوانوں کی بڑی تعداد موجود ہے اور وہ نماز پڑھنے کے علاوہ دعا، اور تلاوت کلام سے یہ دن منائیں گے۔ ایرانی میڈیا کے مطابق اسرائیلی حکومت مسجد الاقصی کی شکل بگاڑ کر اسے اسرائیلی شکل دینے کی مذموم کوشش کر رہی ہے۔
