جاپانی حکام کا کہنا ہے کہ ملک بھر میں ریچھ کے حملوں کی تعداد پہلی بار ٢٠٠ سے تجاوز کر گئی ہے۔ جاپانی وزارت ماحولیات کے مطابق اپریل میں مالی سال کے آغاز سے اب تک کے ٨ ماہ میں ٢١٢ افراد ریچھ کے حملوں کا نشانہ بن چکے ہیں۔ نومبر میں ٣٠ افراد حملوں کا نشانہ بنے جو اس مہینے کے لیے دوسری سب سے بڑی تعداد ہے۔ حملوں کا نشانہ بننے والوں کی مجموعی تعداد مالی سال ٢٠٢٠ کے ١٥٨ کے پچھلے ریکارڈ سے تجاوز کر گئی ہے۔ ریچھ کے حملوں کے اعداد و شمار کا ریکارڈ رکھنے کا آغاز سنہ ٢٠٠٦ میں ہوا تھا۔

اطلاعات کے مطابق ٧٠ فیصد حملے شمال مشرقی جاپان میں ہوئے ہیں۔ کچھ متاثرین اِن حملوں میں ہلاک بھی ہوئے ہیں۔ ہوکّائیدو میں ٢، ایواتے پریفیکچر میں ٢ اور تویاما اور ناگانو پریفیکچرز میں ایک ایک شخص ہلاک ہوا ہے۔ وزارت نے پریفیکچرز کی جانب سے ریچھوں کو پکڑنے اور حملوں کی وجوہات کے تعین میں مدد کی درخواست پر ماہرین کو ایواتے اور تویاما بھیجا ہے۔ وزارت کے حکام کا کہنا ہے کہ ریچھ عام طور پر دسمبر میں سرمائی نیند میں چلے جاتے ہیں۔ تاہم، انہوں نے خبردار کیا ہے کہ مزید حملے ممکن ہیں۔
